ASTER allows test equipment to cost effectively access many optical links.
By means of Aster, network managers can connect multiple SDH/SONET circuits to monitoring equipment to perform the appropriate monitoring application. As VC-12 concentrator Aster extracts VC-12 channels from SDH backbones and delivers them to one or more optical STM-1 outputs.

Aster a centralised monitoring system
By installing Aster next to remote nodes, it is possible to concentrate the traffic and deliver the essential data to a Central Site.
The Central Site can be equipped with Falco, featuring DS0 grooming. This solution avoids the problem of synchronizing several probes installed in different sites.
