Polystar Solver - 3G Load Tester (IuCS/IuPS)

SOLVER System - Load & Stress Testing

SOLVER is a high-performance load and stress test tool for PSTN, 2G, 2.5G and 3G telecommunications networks. It provides the ability to simulate a Radio Access Network (RAN) for GSM/GPRS and UMTS with a huge number of connected mobile subscribers providing load to the Core Network.

SOLVER makes it possible to generate and terminate calls with or without actual payloads, configure the network, test network indicators and provide real-time statistics on traffic progress. Various traffic patterns can be flexibly created to run simultaneously or in sequence so you can simulate your real-world call traffic patterns before your equipment or network is deployed.

Features and Benefits

Main features

  • Generates and receives calls including control signaling and user data (payload)
  • Provides fine-grain control over call set-up rates and parameters
  • Emulates Radio Access Networks Core Network communication procedures
  • Displays call activity and completion statistics such as set-ups, releases and active calls on-line
  • Generates heavy traffic load towards the Core Network
  • Supports set-up and release of GTP tunnels over the Packet Switched Core Network
  • Displays Radio Access Network statistics

Specifications

  • Polystar T&M expands SOLVER capabilities by adding two more interfaces: IP-based Iu-CS load and signalling (SIGTRAN) for a future proof SOLVER and SOLVER ISUP; enabling a multitude of calls through the entire Core Network during system and integration tests

Applications

Tough testing has never been easier. Imagine simulating heavy load in a network with just a few clicks in a user friendly GUI. You can do this, with Polystar's load and stress testing solution that simplifies qualitative performance analysis for equipment manufacturers and network operators.

Load and stress testing is one of the most crucial phases in any development process. In this phase, the system should be pressed to its limits to verify that it can handle the designed traffic capacity. To accomplish this it is necessary to simulate conditions, as close as possible to reality, when handling various traffic scenarios or testing features and functionality.

SOLVER easily produces load in different steps - everything from background load to maximum testing, as well as various basic call scenarios existing in a network to fill the queues and load the processors and stress the System Under Test (SUT) to its maximum level.

The BSCs and RNCs are connected to the MGW/MSC/VLRs and SGSNs respectively, and to the different BTSs and Node Bs, which in turn communicate with the mobile devices.

SOLVER is connected directly to the MGW/MSC/VLRs and SGSNs in the network, thus replacing the BSCs, RNCs, BTSs, and Node Bs, enabling massive load and stress testing in the network.

Supports advanced Next Generation protocols
In Next Generation Wireless networks, such as UMTS, it is where telecommunication and data converge. This complex environment places enormous demands on test system versatility and capacity. SOLVER simulates, emulates and provides load generation in the access network against the core network and can thereby test systems and network elements such as SGSN/GGSN, MSC and MGW.

SOLVER is capable of handling a large number of virtual subscribers, all of which can generate signalling and simulated payload data. The system has interfaces for both signalling and payload and includes protocol stacks according to 3gpp standards.

One of our primary objectives when designing SOLVER has been usability. As the technical environment increases in complexity, it is vital that the test system provides automated functions for low-layer protocols, configuration and execution of scripts and tests. SOLVER's intuitive GUI allows the user to quickly set up and run all tests, even if he or she is not a protocol expert.
